When the design for a restaurant project called for metal work gates, MAS sought to push the bounds of this common San Francisco feature using everyday materials. This prototype made of PVC pipes draws inspiration from traditional Moorish ironwork filigree and adds new depth. Composed of identical tubes with angled cuts grouped in fours, the design introduces variation by altering the orientation of the cut – high points together, in the same direction, quarter turns, and beyond.
