Hot White Orange
Text.
An experiment in collaborative design and construction, this functional piece of urban art emerged from an architecture studio at the University of California, Berkeley, led by Mark Anderson. The class conceived the piece as a hydronically heated, articulated glowing orange seating apparatus, then worked with local trades to design and fabricate the individual components. Orange-segment-shaped, air-filled bladders are supported by powder coated steel frames and warmed by water-filled thermal ballast blankets to create a playful and comforting gathering space.
